Ethical policy

M&Co. offers equal opportunities to all employees without reference to age, sex, disability or ethnicity and only works with suppliers and manufacturers who hold the same beliefs.
We are proud to be members of the Ethical Trade Initiative (ETI) and have adopted their base code as our own.

We strive to only purchase goods from suppliers who:

  • Allow employment to be freely chosen
  • Respect freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
  • Have safe and hygienic working conditions
  • Do not use child labour
  • Pay a living wage
  • Do not work excessive hours
  • Do not discriminate
  • Provide regular employment
  • Do no allow harsh on inhumane treatment of workers

    We monitor our suppliers constantly and if any supplier is found to be in breach of the above we will then offer to work with them to implement an improvement plan to eliminate the issue and improve the lives of their workers. Only when a supplier in unwilling to improve do we cease business with them.

    Mackays Stores cares for the environment and actively supports the practical use of recycled or recyclable products and packaging.

    Children's Hope Charity, Bangladesh
    Mackays sources garments from more than 10 different countries. One of our suppliers in Bangladesh founded the Children's Hope Charity. Mackays sponsors 25 children in slum areas and provides them with full time education from primary through to university. Five students have already passed their exams and been accepted into college. Mackays has made a long term commitment to change the lives of some of these children by financially sponsoring their education.
