Medicine has taken giant steps forward in our lifetimes, yet one woman in nine will still develop breast cancer. Although survival rates are improving, too many women will die from the disease.
It is still not known what causes breast cancer and how it develops and progresses. Established in 1988 with the aim of researching the cure, Breast Cancer Campaign funds research which seeks to improve diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, generate better understanding of how it develops and ultimately either cure the disease or prevent it.
In 2006, we nominated Breast Cancer Campaign as our new Charity of the Year, our staff and customers raised over £180,000 during the course of 2006/07 which is a fantastic amount and one that shows real dedication and commitment to raising money and awareness for this great cause. We are proud to support Breast Cancer Campaign as our Charity of the Year for the second year running.

M&Co. are delighted to announce that they are now supporting children’s charity, Save the Children in addition to our fundraising work with Breast Cancer Campaign and Children of Hope.
A new initiative will see 5p from every single item of kids clothing sold being donated towards the charity’s campaign to raise funds for the impoverished children of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, as well as those whose lives have been devastated by the 2005 Pakistan earthquake.
This commitment will help raise much-needed funds for life saving treatments and sanitation work in Burma where more than 132,000 children die from preventable diseases every year. The situation for children in Southeast Asian country is grave and appears to be worsening and Burma is one of the few countries in the world where children today are likely to have worse health and education outcomes than their parents.
Investment and trade sanctions imposed on Burma by Europe, United States and Canada due to the military regime and current political climate has resulted in a lack of major foreign investment reducing opportunites and plunging the population further into poverty. When asked about the new initiative, Chairman Iain McGeoch said: “We are delighted to be in a position to help so many children in one of the world’s most deprived areas. Save the Children was chosen overwhelmingly by M&Co. customers to receive aid and we are sure the contribution made by us on behalf of our customers will make a tremendous difference to the lives of so many underprivileged children.”
We will also be providing two fully-equipped play buses, which are vital to the rehabilitation of those children affected by the Pakistani natural disaster.
